Who is Wolverine Power Supply?
Wolverine Power Supply Cooperative ("Wolverine") is an electric generation and transmission utility located in Cadillac, Michigan. Wolverine is jointly owned by Cherryland Electric Cooperative (Grawn), Great Lakes Energy (Boyne City), Presque Isle Electric & Gas (Onaway) and Tri-County (Portland).
The electrical grid consists of three distinct components: Generation, Transmission and Distribution. Wolverine, on behalf of the cooperatives listed above, takes care of the generation and transmission components. Cherryland, like the other three cooperatives, is strictly a distribution utility.
Wolverine generates power and secures power supply through contracts with other major generation utilties. The power supplied by Wolverine moves (or "wheels") over transmission lines either owned by Wolverine, Consumers Energy or DTE depending on source, location and destination. Wolverine also takes delivery of power from the Harvest Wind Farm located in the thumb of Michigan.
Two of Cherryland's seven Directors sit on the Wolverine Board of Directors.
Any excess margins generated by Wolverine are assigned back to the owner cooperatives as capital credits. Each individual Cherryland member has a Cherryland and Wolverine capital credit account.
